Through this work I wanted explore the question, “Who is a scientist?”. This image expresses resilience and community among women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), who have faced a longstanding history of ostracization. Inspired by the camaraderie I’ve shared with peers, friends, and mentors, this project is a personal reflection and a celebration of the women who paved the way for us and were ahead of their time. Drawing on the history of science, I wanted to warp time and integrate 1940s women’s fashion into a modern lab setting. Shot on large-format film, this image bridges past and present, exploring the dichotomy between ongoing systemic barriers and the empowerment found through solidarity and community as women in our field.
